Training Methodology
Boxing training incorporates technical skill development, bag work, live partner drills, and targeted physical conditioning. Here is a rundown of some of the training we do -
-
Technical & Solo Drills
-
Shadowboxing: Practicing combinations, footwork, slipping, and defensive maneuvers in front of a mirror or in open space without physical targets.
-
Footwork & Agility Drills: Utilizing agility ladders, cone drills, and stance-pivoting exercises to improve balance, distance control, and ring positioning.
-
Defensive Reaction Drills: Working with slip bags, maize bags, or weave ropes to practice head movement, bobbing, and weaving under dynamic targets.
2. Bag Work
-
Heavy Bag Work: Developing power output, punch mechanics, endurance, and multi-punch combination flow against high resistance.
-
Double-End Bag Work: Refining rhythm, timing, head movement, and rapid hand-eye coordination using a tension-tethered target.
-
Speed Bag Work: Building hand speed, shoulder endurance, cadence, and persistent upper-body guard awareness.
-
Aqua Bag: Targeting curved power shots, hooks, and uppercuts from inside angles.
3. Partner & Coach Work
-
Focus Mitts / Coach Pads: Executing specific combinations, defense-to-offense transitions, and counter-punching sequences called dynamically by a trainer.
-
Body Protector Work: Practicing heavy body shots and high-impact combinations with realistic target feedback.
-
Partner Technical Drills: Controlled block-and-counter or jab-defense exchanges with a partner without full-contact intensity.
4. Sparring
-
Touch / Technical Sparring: Light-contact practice emphasizing movement, distance management, timing, and trying new setups safely.
-
Conditional / Position Sparring: Sparring restricted to specific constraints (e.g., corner work, jab-only exchanges, or inside fighting).
-
Hard Sparring: Simulated match conditions at race pace to test ring generalship, stamina, and composure under high pressure.
5. Strength & Conditioning
-
Roadwork & Cardio: Distance running, hill sprints, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), and jump rope (skipping) to build aerobic and anaerobic capacity.
-
Core & Rotational Training: Medicine ball throws, Russian twists, ab wheel rollouts, and plank variations to maximize kinetic power transfer.
-
Calisthenics & Resistance: Push-ups, pull-ups, neck conditioning, and light dumbbell/band work targeting fast-twitch shoulder endurance.
